Metal Gate Frames
Why use Metal Gate Frames
After hundreds of installations and countless inspections, we have found that a properly installed gate will save both the customer and us as a company countless hours of hassles and frustration. Now we love the carefree install, maintenance, and longevity of a gate built with a metal frame. Let’s look at a few other areas that should also be addressed on gates.
Why Gates go Wrong
How many times have you tried to access a back yard through a gate and the gate did not function properly? Of course, we all have. So what are a few reasons why a gate does not function?
1. Poor gate construction.
2. Poorly Installed or cheap gate hardware is used.
3. Warping gate posts or poorly constructed adjacent panels.
4. Un-level ground or un-manicured lawn at gate base.
5. Little or no concrete used on the gate posts.
You need a better gate
Now, to address the above possible problems, here is what you can do.
1. Keep your lawn maintained and especially the area around the gate path. If you have dogs, you may want to place a few pavers under the closed gate to keep them from wanting to dig there.
2. Inspect the fence job and all the fencing around the gate to make sure the wood looks solid and that everything is fastened correctly.
3. Make sure the gate posts are set with plenty of concrete and it is allowed to set up good before gate installation.
4. Demand better hardware from your fence company with a stainless steel or zinc latch and hinges.
5. Have the installation company draw you a sketch of how the gate will be built. This is crucial because this is a short-cut area by many companies and will be your most vulnerable part of the construction. Question the design if you have concerns.
Why a metal gate frame?
No matter how well the gate is built and no matter how you cross your tees and dot your I’s if a gate is larger than 48″ wide, its time is limited without good metal bracing.
